German clubs from grassroots to Bundesliga back the Euro 2029 bid with WE’29 Celebration Weekend

November 25 – The German Football Association (DFB) mobilised domestic support for their bid to host the UEFA Women’s Euro 2029 last weekend with a nationwide campaign titled ‘WE’29 Celebration Weekend’.

Clubs united across the men’s and women’s game to put their weight behind the bid’s ‘Together we Rise’ slogan.

Stadiums in the Bundesliga, 2. Bundesliga, 3. Liga, the Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga and 2. Frauen-Bundesliga showed their support through on-pitch activations and unified WE’29 moments. Grassroots clubs were also involved.

UEFA will vote on the 2029 hosts in a week’s time. Germany’s bid emphasis is on unity and comes on the back of a continued building of support for women’s football in the country and following the launch last week of the ‘WE’29 Champions’ programme. The weekend’s matches saw bumper crowds including more than 57,000 at the Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga opener between FC Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, and 37,000 at Germany’s UEFA Women’s Nations League semi-final in Düsseldorf.

German organisers are using this increase in fan engagement with the women’s game to push the boundaries of what can be achieved following the sell-out success of this year’s women’s Euro in Switzerland.

Seven of the eight proposed stadiums having capacities of more than 45,000, with projections of more than one million fans expected to attend.

DFB Vice President for Women’s and Girl’s Football, Heike Ullrich, said: “Every match, every club, and every fan who took part was part of something bigger. WE’29 is not just a bid—it’s a movement to grow women’s football at every level. The weekend brought that spirit to life and showed Europe the passion that exists here in Germany.”

The DFB is not looking at the hosting as purely a domestic opportunity but has opened its doors to expanded opportunities for knowledge-sharing across UEFA member associations.

“The WE’29 Celebration Weekend showed that support for this bid runs deep—from the Bundesliga and Frauen Bundesliga to local clubs in every region. It was a celebration of what we’ve built together and a statement of intent about where we want to go. The unity of German football is one of our greatest strengths, and it was on full display,” said DFB President Bernd Neuendorf.
