October 1 – Vancouver Whitecaps are staying at BC Place for at least one more season, but the club’s longer-term future in the city is still very much unfinished business.
The Whitecaps have agreed an extension to their lease covering Major League Soccer’s (MLS) shortened 2027 ‘sprint season’, allowing the club to begin selling season tickets while discussions continue over a more permanent stadium arrangement.
MLS will run a 14-game regular season from February to May 2027 before single-elimination playoffs, then switch to its new summer-to-spring calendar from July.
Whitecaps Chief Executive Axel Schuster made clear the lease extension buys time rather than solves the problem.
“[The extension] should only be a tool, and it should only be the paper that allows us to go out with ticket sales,” he said. “But we all have to continue to work on how a longer-term agreement should and could look like that is improving our situation.”
The club have been up for sale since December 2024, with their ownership group repeatedly saying it wants the Whitecaps to remain in Vancouver. Finding a buyer willing to do that has been complicated by the economics of BC Place.
The 55,000-seat stadium is owned and operated by provincial Crown corporation PavCo, leaving the Whitecaps without the level of control over matchday and commercial revenues enjoyed by many of their MLS rivals.
“With the existing deal, we still sit at the end of [the league in] revenues,” Schuster said. “We have to find solutions in the contract model, how we can grow, and how with us also other revenues in the stadium can grow.”
There is at least more premium inventory to sell, given BC Place received a C$196 million upgrade ahead of this summer’s World Cup, with the Whitecaps now introducing a new Tunnel Club and Creekside Terrace hospitality area.
They did also remind some of their existing season-ticket holders to brace for higher prices where their seats now fall within those premium sections.
The timing is slightly awkward: Vancouver have a freshly upgraded stadium and a confirmed home for early 2027, but still no agreement covering what comes afterwards. They did however deliver one bit of longer-term sporting certainty on Tuesday, extending German veteran Thomas Müller’s contract through the sprint season.
Beyond that, both Müller and the Whitecaps are punctuated with a question mark.
“People should know we’re here, we’re staying in the sprint season,” Schuster said. “So the club is not going yet, and nothing is happening yet … And the only way you can show us your support and help is buying tickets and come to the games.”

A Private Blog Network (PBN) is a collection of websites that are controlled by a single individual or organization and used primarily to build backlinks to a “money site” in order to influence its ranking in search engines such as Google. The core idea behind a PBN is based on the importance of backlinks in Google’s ranking algorithm. Since Google views backlinks as signals of authority and trust, some website owners attempt to artificially create these signals through a controlled network of sites.
In a typical PBN setup, the owner acquires expired or aged domains that already have existing authority, backlinks, and history. These domains are rebuilt with new content and hosted separately, often using different IP addresses, hosting providers, themes, and ownership details to make them appear unrelated. Within the content published on these sites, links are strategically placed that point to the main website the owner wants to rank higher. By doing this, the owner attempts to pass link equity (also known as “link juice”) from the PBN sites to the target website.
The purpose of a PBN is to give the impression that the target website is naturally earning links from multiple independent sources. If done effectively, this can temporarily improve keyword rankings, increase organic visibility, and drive more traffic from search results.
