October 31 – Munich’s Allianz Arena is poised to host the 2028 Champions League match with London’s Wembley and Barcelona’s Nou Camp contesting the hosting rights for the 2029 showpiece match.
On Friday, European governing body UEFA confirmed the list of interested bidders from among its member associations for the European club finals in 2028 and 2029. UEFA said that it had received declarations of interest from 16 member associations to host the 2028 and 2029 club finals, including the Women’s Champions League final.
“The declarations of interest are not binding, and the final proposals must be delivered with the bid dossiers by June 10,” said UEFA in a statement.
Last season the Allianz Arena played host to Paris Saint-Germain’s first Champions League victory and the German city wants to stage the competition’s final again in 2028. No other member association has come forward, suggesting Munich is set to land the hosting rights.
Wembley and Camp Nou will go head-to-head to organise Europe’s premier club match in 2029. The modern Wembley welcomed the final in 2011, 2013 and 2024 when Real Madrid won their fourteenth European Cup with a 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund. Camp Nou last hosted the Champions League final in 1999.
The announcement kills any lingering speculation that the Champions League final in 2028 or in 2029 would be staged in the United States. Recently, Relevent’s plan to stage a La Liga match between FC Barcelona and Villarreal in Miami collapsed. Relevent’s new subsidiary, Relevent Football Partners, is a commercial partner of UEFA and deals with the commercial rights of the Champions League for the 2027-2033 cycle.
UEFA will appoint the host cities in September 2026. This season’s Champions League final will be played at the Puskas Arena in the Hungarian capital Budapest.
