November 19 – TNT Sports, which a few years ago walked away from the US broadcast rights to the UEFA Champions League in the US, is returning to the game with a new platform in the form of the World Sevens Football Tournament, a three-day 7v7 women’s only showcase that runs December 5-7 on TNT, truTV, and HBO Max.
The inaugural series made its debut in Portugal earlier this year, drawing fanfare, respectable TV numbers, and a wave of excitement around a format that played to the changing demographics of football consumers. Fans loved the pace, and the players loved the freedom to play without the weekly grind of domestic football.
Now the tournament heads to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, with eight top clubs from across North and South America featuring the Kansas City Current and San Diego Wave FC from the NWSL, Mexico’s Club América and Tigres UANL, Canada’s AFC Toronto, Brazil’s Flamengo, Colombia’s Deportivo Cali, and Uruguay’s Nacional. They’ll be playing for a $5 million prize pool.
With personal time more valuable than ever, W7F leans into that demographic with short matches, rolling subs, and an emphasis on fun rather than rigid tactics.
TNT Sports has said it will roll out the bells and whistles, giving W7F full English-language coverage and on-site studio shows all weekend, with Bleacher Report, House of Highlights, and B/R Football adding behind-the-scenes moments and the all-important social content.
